A photoshoot is more than just capturing beautiful images. It has the power to become your personal vision board, a visual representation of your goals and aspirations. As someone who strongly believes in the power of vision boards, I have been creating them for the past seven years. I have even had a smaller version in my planner to keep me focused on my weekly and monthly goals. The past vision boards are at my studio, one hangs across from my bed, and the latest is on Pinterest and I have a widget that cycles through the photos on my phone screen, serving as the first and last thing I see each day.
Our brains are remarkable machines that go after what we consistently focus on. Positive thinking and daily gratitude can actually reprogram our brain waves, as scientific research confirms. This is where the concept of a vision board comes into play. While having goals is important, simply thinking about them might keep them as mere dreams. Writing them down increases the likelihood of achieving them. But when we accompany our goals with a visual representation that we see every day, our brains work tirelessly to make those goals a reality. I have personally witnessed this phenomenon, not just in my own life, but also among the women I know. We have shared stories of how things unfolded exactly as we had visualized on our vision boards. It’s so rewarding when it happens.
Positive visuals of ourselves hold immense power. During my time managing a cosmetic studio, I encountered countless women and girls seeking a new lipstick shade or foundation. I always made sure to provide a pampering experience, offering complimentary steam facials and makeovers. As we engaged in conversation and experimented with products, I could observe their initial guardedness slowly melting away. When they finally looked in the mirror, their transformed appearance never failed to leave them in awe.
They felt seen, they felt beautiful. Leaving the studio with a newfound sparkle in their eyes and an extra skip in their step, their confidence had received a significant boost. However, the effects of that makeup would only last for a short time.
That’s why I propose taking the idea of a vision board to a whole new level. In these stressful and anxiety-ridden times, many of my clients have expressed difficulties in coping with world events, as well as low self-esteem among themselves and their children. With my photography expertise, I aim to help clients see the very best in themselves, even when they don’t feel their best. Through skillful lighting techniques, expert posing positions, and personalized coaching, I strive to capture their true essence and present them in the most flattering way possible.
When clients come to me for branding photos or headshots, they may not have achieved their dream job, received a promotion, or secured their first client, yet. However, having a killer headshot can significantly boost their confidence and propel them toward pursuing those goals.
I have witnessed this transformation occur time and time again. Just imagine seeing yourself at your best every single day. Picture being photographed, carefully posed, and lit to highlight your most radiant self. Then, select your favorite image and print it so that you can see it on a daily basis. Think about how your brain would rejoice, even on your toughest days, when you can see yourself at your absolute best. Whether it’s a small picture on your nightstand or a striking portrait adorning your wall, the impact of seeing yourself as your best self on a regular basis is immeasurable.
This practice not only boosts your confidence but serves as a constant reminder that you are beautiful and seen. Even on the darkest days, when it’s a struggle to keep your head held high, this vision of yourself can be the perfect reminder that you are capable of conquering any challenge.
Now, I understand firsthand how daunting it can be to step in front of the camera, especially if you don’t feel your best. As someone who may not be at my ideal weight and hasn’t colored my hair since early 2020, I am willing to take the leap for myself.
I have my own photos taken at least once a year and now I am going to have them printed to put this theory to the test. I want to experience firsthand just how powerful it can be.
So, I ask, who is willing to join me on this journey? Let me know if you are ready to create your own vision of your best self. When you are ready, I would be honored to help you in any way I can.
