Want to know how to stand out online? The first thing to know is that it all starts with not being afraid to show up and knowing how to distinguish yourself from your competition. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel here, but you also can’t just do the same thing as others in your industry. Otherwise, your business will end up blending in, which is exactly the opposite of what we want.
As a brand photographer, I wanted to share with you from my experience some different ways through photography you can help your business set itself apart from what everyone else is doing.
Let’s dive into my top tips on how you can stand out online.
All of these tips are intended to help you make your business easily recognizable and reputable. Here are my best tips on how you can get creative and carve out a space for yourself online.
Professional photos convey that you’re serious about your business. They also demonstrate that you’re willing to invest in yourself. This tells your audience that you not only care about what you do, but these photos will help build up your credibility and trust.
Professional photos will help you stand out and make you and your business look more put together than any old iPhone images or random photos that you may have lying around.
The reality is that if you want to build a successful business that doesn’t feel like a recycled version of what someone else is doing, you need to show your face. That’s where your photos come in—they will show what you do and give you the chance to show up as your authentic self. Your audience will appreciate the effort you put into trying to make a connection with them and build your know-like-trust factor.
Another great way to stand out in the online space is to create your own “stock” photos. This way, potential clients aren’t looking at multiple sites in your industry and seeing the same photos over and over, such as the stock photos everyone else is using.
If you have your own stock photos, you’ll be able to differentiate yourself from your competitors and have visuals that truly align with your brand.
Having your own stock photos will be super helpful when it comes to content creation, making this process, and showing up, feel much easier and more genuine. Trust me when I say that your own stock photos are going to be much more captivating and attention-grabbing than generic ones that your audience has seen used before by someone else in your industry.
You can create your own background or stock photos using things that match your brand vibe. This could include your workspace, any branded items you have, your favorite aesthetic mug, etc. With your stock photos, you can be as creative as you want!
People want to connect with people. Personality photos are a great way to help your audience see the real YOU – your passions, your interests. Personality photos are more than just a headshot and they aren’t meant to feel stiff or corporate. Rather this style of images gives you the chance to include things you love and show off who you are.
The best personality photos are the ones where you show up as your authentic self. These photos also give you a chance to show a behind-the-scenes of what you do, your work, your creative process, etc. and you can show off your hobbies and interests. All of this will help bolster your online appearance and help your audience build a connection with YOU.
The best way to stand out is to show up consistently everywhere someone can find you. So, be sure to use your brand photos on your website, your social media, your email marketing, any advertising you do or marketing materials you have, etc.
You want everything in your brand to feel cohesive and put together. This means that your brand colors should be a part of your photos. Incorporating your brand colors into your photos will help your audience associate those colors and your brand vibe with you. Every time they see those specific colors, they will instantly think of you!
Having your brand colors in your photos will also make everything you put out feel more professional. Remember, professional doesn’t have to mean corporate. When I say professional, I mean that your images are building trustworthiness in your business. You can incorporate your brand colors into your photos with what you choose to wear or with props.
Branded videos can help your business leave a lasting impression and create a cohesive brand story. They can also promote your products and services.
These videos will not look like anything your competition is doing because they will be your videos, not stock videos that you, and maybe your competitors, purchased online. If you want to learn more about the importance of branding videography, you can check out the blog post I wrote for you here.
I hope that you found this guide helpful and that you use these tips to help your business stand out in the online space. In a market that is often oversaturated and full of noise, it’s more important than ever to find a way for your business to differentiate itself and create a recognizable brand identity.
