Why Your Small Business Should Be Using Flodesk for Email Marketing

Inside my membership, The Content Club, I have the opportunity to work with several amazing small business owners, from coaches to health professionals to creatives. One thing that I‘ve seen over and over again is that they aren’t seriously thinking about building a list or collecting emails. Many of them don’t yet understand or realize how powerful email marketing can be.

However, email marketing is one of the BEST ways to stay connected with your audience, build sustainable relationships, and make sure your subscribers are aware of any new offers/promotions you have. That’s why I ensure that every member of the Content Club is aware of the value of email marketing from day one!

I personally use my email list to share about local events, musings of my own, stories about clients and their testimonials, photoshoots, and of course also info about my membership -the Content Club. I always get emails back engaging with the content I send and opening up new conversations!

If you want to get started using email marketing I know that one of the first questions on your mind is going to be which platform should I use?

Here’s why Flodesk comes with a glowing recommendation from me:

No penalties for growing your email list

Flodesk charges a set price for unlimited subscribers. Some other email marketing platforms will charge you more the larger your list becomes, but not Flodesk.

It’s always improving and gives you lots of creative freedom

The Flodesk team is always building, always improving, and always adding to their design suite to give you the best experience possible. Also, if you don’t know where to start Flodesk has custom templates you can use and you can save your favorites to use over and over again.

Because of Flodesk and how easy it is to use, I finally created a nurture sequence for my email list – and it was sooo easy. I couldn’t believe I had waited so long to make one! Now, I not only have a nurture sequence, but I’m consistent about sending a newsletter to my list – which is my favorite form of communication.

It’s super user-friendly and easy to use

Flodesk makes email marketing so simple, and sending emails isn’t a task I dread but one that I actively look forward to. Also, I can adjust my email and nurture sequence as my brand evolves, so I don’t ever have to worry about feeling stuck or sending out emails with branding that just doesn’t feel like me.

Furthermore, when you sign up for Flodesk they have an amazing (and free) 14-day trial period so you can test out the platform, the features, and functions to affirm your decision that this is the email marketing platform for you!

How to Get Started Using Flodesk

First, head here to sign up for your free trial! One of the first things Flodesk is going to have you do, outside of filling in your account details, is fill in your brand details. Here, you can add your logo, brand colors, brand fonts, and more. You’ll also need to set up your from name and sending email address. For a full in-depth tutorial on how to get everything set up in Flodesk, go here

Also, once you’ve signed up for your trial you’ll want to import your current email list into Flodesk. Now you might be asking yourself – wait how am I supposed to get email subscribers? Don’t fret! I’ll be sharing my top tips below!

If you already have an email list you’ll want to go ahead and import it into Flodesk which is very easy to do. When you import your list make sure that you are tagging and segmenting each subscriber that you import. After your first subscribers have been imported you can get started on designing your opt-in / nurture sequence – which by the way is also how you’re going to get more email subscribers.

How to get email subscribers as a small business owner

If you’re just starting to try and grow your email list, you’ll want to create what’s called an opt-in, aka a freebie, which you give to anyone who signs up for your email list.

Make sure that when you’re creating your freebie you do a couple of very important things. First, your freebie should solve a problem. Second, your freebie should be evergreen meaning that it can live indefinitely – it should not be something with an expiration date.

Once you’ve created your amazing freebie, you need to talk about it everywhere (and I mean literally everywhere). Create a pop-up for it on your website, mention it in your blog posts, and share it all over social media. Your opt-in is going to be one of the fastest ways to grow your email list.

What Should You Share With Your Email List as a Small Business Owner?

The answer to this question really depends on what your small business offers; therefore, what you should be sending will look slightly different for everyone. I personally would recommend to every small business – create a newsletter! This will help you build a deeper connection with your audience.  If you are going to start a newsletter, I would suggest a weekly newsletter over a monthly newsletter. This way, your email list has something to look forward to every single week. Furthermore, you’re not only at the top of their inbox but at the top of their mind!

You can also send your email list client case studies, reviews, links to your latest blog posts, or any info about new offers or products you have!
