Hello & welcome

One of the best investments you can make is in a business branding photoshoot. But how do you make sure your business branding photoshoot isn’t just a gallery full of pretty, professional pictures but that these images convey your brand story, your personality, the amazing services you offer, and that they instantly build trust and confidence in you and your business?

As a brand photographer, I don’t want you to receive a gallery full of nice pictures. I want your business branding photos to be inviting to your audience so that they become more curious about who you are, they want to get to know your business better, and these photos help elevate your business.

Let’s dive into my top tips for your business branding photoshoot so that you can have the best session possible.

Top Tips for Your Business Branding Photoshoot

Scout the best location to take your photos

First, if you have a physical business, it is a great place to take some (if not all) of your business branding photos to show off your space and help maintain your brand story.

However, if you don’t have a physical location, where should you take your business branding photos? The answer depends on which location feels right for you, your business, and your brand.

I would encourage you to find unique places that match your brand vibe, whether a studio with a controlled environment, somewhere outdoors such as the beach or city streets, or even your favorite cafe where you spend time working.

When trying to find a location that is best for your brand photos, you can start by asking yourself the following questions:

  1. Where and how do I work?
  2. Which places feel the most like my brand?
  3. Where are my favorite places to be?

Answering these questions will hopefully give you a clearer answer on some possible locations where you can take your business branding photos.

Also, when thinking about location, if possible, try choosing a versatile location or one that’s close to another spot that you love to add more variety and a different dynamic to your branding photos.

This way, all your photos won’t look exactly the same, with the only difference being how you pose. For example, you could pick your favorite cafe next to the beach, a lake, or a park, start your branding session at your chosen cafe, and then finish your session in a different spot.

Types of photos to get

As you think about where to get your business branding photos, it’s also good to come up with a list of photos that you know you want. Also, consider whether the location you’ve chosen will work well for all the different photos you have in mind.

For example, if you want some headshot photos but choose a cafe that doesn’t have the best lighting, this probably wouldn’t be the ideal location for this type of photo.

As you’re coming up with your list of photos that you want to include in your business branding session I would highly recommend that you definitely get some headshots.

Here are my other recommendations:

  • Fun personality pictures
  • Pictures of any spaces that you have
  • “Stock” type photos that you can use that are branded to you but are also great for backgrounds.
  • Casual portraits
  • Product or service photos (if that is a part of your business)

Who should be in your photos?

Obviously, you should be in your branding photos — don’t be afraid to be front and center and the star of your business branding session. Also, if you have a team you’ll want to have some professional headshots of your team members and also some photos of you with them.

If you have a physical location, you can take photos with your team in front of your business or at the main entrance. You could also have team headshots and group photos taken in a professional studio.

Having photos with your team and team portraits is important, as this will make your brand feel more authentic and build confidence and trust in your business.

Choosing your outfits

When it comes to deciding what to wear for your session with whatever you choose make sure that your outfits match your brand vibe  —  without being too distracting. You could even choose to wear your branding colors to your photoshoot.

On the other hand, you shouldn’t wear clothing that doesn’t coincide with the colors of your branding because, remember, you’ll be using your branding photos everywhere: your website, social media, advertisements, etc. We want to create a cohesive image of you and your business across all channels.

Also, choose clothing items that go with your brand style. For instance, if your brand style is modern and minimal, you wouldn’t want to choose clothing that is bold and lively and always keep your brand image in mind.

This means not choosing any clothing that is faded, wrinkly, or worn out, as this doesn’t convey a professional image or message to your audience.

If you’re looking for even more advice on choosing your business branding outfits, I’ve got you covered. Check out the blog I wrote to help you figure out what to wear for your brand photoshoot here.

If it makes sense, you can also consider bringing different props to your business branding session. Props, if chosen well, will make your photos look more natural and genuine.

You could bring your laptop, planner, a coffee mug that coincides with your brand, or even relevant books to your industry. If your business has any physical, branded items, such as branded coffee mugs or notebooks, you could also bring those along with you.
