Hello & welcome

Oftentimes when we are talking about brand photography, you see that it is mentioned in the online space. While it is important for online businesses to have photos, small business photography also extends to in-person brick-and-mortar businesses, too.

As a brand photographer myself, I’ve been able to work with some incredible in-person brands to create photos that they are able to use all across their business. These not only help give them professional content, but also make their business feel more professional.

So, if you are a physical brand, here are some of the most important reasons why you need small business photography.

Why You Need Brand Photos

You still have an online presence

Even if you do have a physical storefront or business, you are still going to have an online presence. This is going to include things like your website, social media, email marketing, etc.

These are all spaces where you want to show off a cohesive and professional look and brand photos allow you to do just that. Now, when I say professional, I don’t necessarily mean corporate.

If you do have a very corporate feel to your business, great, but when I talk about professional, I am talking more about feeling put together and thought out. So, if you have a very fun and playful brand, you can have brand photos that show that off while still looking professional.

In today’s world, social media is also a bit part of any business. As much as we would love to ignore it, having quality content that you can use on your social media can really help to make your business stand out.

Allows you to show off your space

One of the most unique parts of your brick-and-mortar business is going to be your physical space itself. In my opinion, you are doing yourself a disservice if you don’t show that off.

When it comes to buying products or investing in services, coming across something that is really unique, has its own unique vibe and aesthetic, and is unapologetically itself is a major draw for customers.

Small business photography is the perfect way to show that off. So, along with having photos of any products that you sell or even your team, you want to make sure that you are highlighting your space itself.

Show off the fun and quirky aspects of it, your favorite wall that you have decorated, or something that someone isn’t going to find anywhere else. This is all going to help you not only stand out from other businesses who might be doing the same thing but also help drive your ideal customers right to your door.

Gives you high-quality marketing material

Odds are you are going to be doing some sort of marketing for your business. This may be online, but if you are a physical business, you’re probably also going to be doing some sort of print marketing as well.

This may be cards that you hand out in your store, posters that you hang around your town, or even features in local magazines. Brand photos are the perfect addition to any of these and help tell a more complete story of your business.

A lot of us are visual people. Yes, we can read what is said on the flyer or in the ad, but high-quality, unique brand photos are going to catch our attention and draw us in. That is exactly what we want to do, and it is going to help us build a more engaged community.

Helps to build trust with your customers and clients

Your business is really going to work or not based on the trust that your customers and clients have with you. Yes, a big part of that is going to be the actual product or service that you offer. You have to make sure that whatever you are selling stands up to what people are expecting.

But that trust and confidence in your business can start to be built before they even purchase anything from you. Your customer’s opinions of your brand and of your business start to get formed the second that they interact with you.

That means if they come across an ad that you put out or see your social media page and what they see is a bit flat or just not the best quality, they are going to more likely to question the overall quality of everything that you offer.

Think about your own buying habits. If you have two businesses that you are choosing from to purchase books for your kids, are you more likely to go to the store that you see is very bright, fun, and looks inviting on social media or the one that looks a bit dark and dreary, and you can’t really tell the vibe of what you are about to walk into.

In reality, these two stores could look very similar in real life and have the same aesthetic inside, but the photos that are shown of them tell a very different story. When you are getting small business photography, you’re not getting someone to just walk in with a camera to point and click.

You are getting a professional who knows exactly what needs to be done to show off your business in the best light possible (literally and conceptually). This can really make a big difference when it comes to if people trust the business that they are about to walk into or if they are going to be a bit skeptical.

Adds a personal touch to your business

Finally, brand photos help to give your business a personal touch. People want to buy from people and as a small business, you are who they are buying from. Whether these are products or services that you have created with your own hands or things that you have hand-picked to feature in your business, it is your personal touch that makes them special.

This is why it is so important to feature that in your brand photos. You cannot underestimate the power of humanizing your business, and small business photography can help you do just that.

Now, how you actually do this is up to you. It can mean featuring you in a lot of the brand photos, having fun headshots of you and your employees that you can feature, or having more subtle references to you throughout your photos.

Whatever you choose to do, don’t shy away from being a part of your brand and showing the people who make your business what it is.
