One of my favorite things as a business owner is helping women tap into the many layers that make them who they are. They are not just a business owner or a wife, or a mom and neither am I. We have layers, like an onion or a parfait! I have dreams and desires that go beyond wanting to be the go-to person in the Chicagoland area for women business owners to get their headshots and branding photos. I struggle on days just like any human being and I have to choose to get out of bed every day to go after my dreams.
Going out on your own, to follow your dreams is hard. If you have ever started your own business or side hustle, you put everything into it. Sometimes you lose sight of what’s important, like spending time with family and friends or sometimes even taking care of yourself. And that is where I found myself, back in 2018. I had a pretty intense medical scare and did not see it coming because I was not listening to my body screaming at me.
While I was processing and healing, I was given the unique opportunity to be a part of a book collaboration. It was what I needed to hear at that moment, in my journey, to help me process what I had gone through. I took the leap to do something I have never done before. It gave me a chance to really explore, grieve, and come to terms with my new reality and how I want to do life going forward. I thankfully had the full support of my husband and son, and my core group of women that encouraged me to keep going even when I became overwhelmed and too scared to submit.
We don’t have to have had any of the same life experiences for you to read this chapter. We can each have our own struggles, triumphs, and learn our own life lessons, but we can still all relate to one another. I wrote from my heart and simply told this part of my journey in life with the hopes that just one person could connect with my experiences. There may be a notebook of many more chapters waiting to be explored later down the road. If my story does not resonate with you, that’s ok! This book is a compilation of 14 women’s memoirs. Perhaps one or more will speak to you.
When I wrote my chapter, we were living in a pre-COVID world, but many of the same sentiments are valid today. This chapter is just a small peek into my personal life. From my worries to my fears, and why the work I do today continues to be so important to me. Building women up, creating a strong, supportive community, and taking time to actually live life with the people that I love, pretty much sums up my chapter, but, there are some other little nuggets in there for you to explore.
If you are interested in exploring mine and my fellow women storytellers’ personal memoirs, proving that you can live out your passions and transform your life… I have copies in the studio!
